Kaleidoscopic Silk Scarf

This hand-printed long silk scarf was designed by Thomas Avery in collaboration with Brilliant Silk.

Details

The scarf features a pig nose turtle (Warradjan) design inspired by the Kakadu Yellow Water. The pig nose turtle is one of the unique creatures to be encountered on the Yellow Water Cruises in Kakadu National Park. The only freshwater turtle with flippers, it has a protruding pig like nose that pokes out of the water like a snorkel. All motifs are hand printed in gold and then painted in a kaleidoscope of colours inspired by the Kakadu Yellow Water.

Thomas ‘Bagaay’ Avery is a descendant of the Gamilaroi tribe in northern NSW. His personal totem is the blue tongue lizard. Thomas’s ancestors were born at Bohena Creek Aboriginal Reserve, Narrabri. Thomas is a painter, designer and filmmaker using his unique insights to communicate his culture.
