Ganalili

For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups the community art centre is a hub for culture, communication, connection to Country and identity as well as providing space and support for artistic practice and economic opportunity.

The Ganalili Centre in Roebourne Western Australia is owned by Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation. Ganalili is the Yindjibarndi word for the light in the morning before the rising of the sun. The purpose of the Centre is to use arts to build future leaders and offer cultural, social and financial opportunities to Yindjibarndi people for the benefit of the whole community.

One of the centre's many projects is a series of kids t-shirts designed by local Roebourne high school students. "Our local Roebourne Senior High School Students produced these artwork of local animals in a workshop held at the school in 2018. Their unique interpretation of Yindjibarndi’s flora, fauna and Country were used to the create educational content for the interactive devices at the Ganalili Cultural Centre."
