Kirsten Atkinson is a proud Bangerang / Gunaikurnai woman from country Victoria she is also the owner and creator behind Yingarna.Yingarna makes Handmade laser cut wooden earrings featuring the signature Yingarna Logo.
Like many women Kirsten initially started Yingarna when her “youngest daughter was around two years old and I was starting to think about returning to work. I wanted a job where I could work flexible hours and still be a part of my children's schooling lives and be there for them after school and school holidays.”
Kisten’s connection to culture was also a driving factor in starting her business she wanted to do something different, that would allow me to share her culture. Kirsten explains “ I wanted to give other Aboriginal people an outlet to purchase products that promoted our culture, that they could gift to others or dress their own children in, and I also wanted to encourage Non-Indigenous people to purchase my products and to be comfortable embracing our culture and sharing their love of Aboriginal culture with others.”
Kirsten could not be happier working with Welcome to Country she explains “I absolutely love the opportunity that being a part of the Welcome to Country Marketplace has given me. It came at the perfect time for me- I was struggling with keeping my own online sales increasing, so having the chance to access the wider audience that Welcome to Country has and putting the marketing in their hands gave me the time needed to focus on creating my products.”
