Medika Thorpe

Director

Medika Thorpe is a proud Gunai, Gunditjmara and Gooreng Gooreng woman from Victoria with connections to Bundaberg, QLD but was raised on Gadigal and Darug country in Sydney.

Currently on maternity leave, Medika welcomed her first child in February 2023, from her role at the National Indigenous Television (NITV) where she is a producer of the popular travel tv series ‘Going Places with Ernie Dingo’.

Medika is passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and she is currently a member of the City of Sydney Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Advisory Panel. Her experience in various roles spanning across her career within media, community health and the creative arts has helped her build rapport to advocate and empower the communities she serves and supports.

Significant roles Medika is most proud of is her work with First Nation owned organisations and businesses such as NITV, Vibe Australia, 33 Creative and her help in establishing Australia’s first Indigenous film festival, Winda, in 2016 based in Sydney after her time living in Toronto, Canada working in the film industry.

Medika loves to travel and has been fortunate to see a lot of places within Australia due to the nature of her work, but she says nothing compares to meeting the people of those places and learning their stories, that’s the real experience.
